History

Acrostak Corp was founded in 2001 by a group of physicians and engineers based in Switzerland.  The first mission assigned to the company was to develop a medical device for intra-coronary brachytherapy.

In 2002, because of the excellent results seen in animals with drug eluting stents, Acrostak interrupted its brachytherapy program and started developing innovative angioplasty balloons.

In 2003, the first "GRIP" balloon was commercialized. Rapidly, thanks to the uniqueness of the GRIP balloon, sales expanded across Europe and Asia.

The GRIP was soon followed by another high pressure balloon, the CTO, with low profile, specially designed for Chronic Total Occlusions.

In 2007, ACROSS CTO, the balloon with the lowest lesion entry profile (0.015") worldwide, entered the market.

Based on excellent clinical results, the GENIE drug-delivery catheter, was launched in 2009 in the market as an alternative treatment to drug-eluting stents, especially appropriate for the treatment of intra-stent restenosis, or for prevention of restenosis in small vessels.
